2017: The Year of Video Marketing

Post by Felicity Whelan, Managing DirectorGLUE Content

There’s no denying that when it comes to content marketing, video is up there with one of the best mediums to get your point across. Consumers’ attention spans are reducing and so content that is both interactive and visual continues to hit the mark.

According to software firm HighQ, 78% of people watch videos online every week, and 55% watch videos every day. These numbers make us wonder – if you haven’t already outlined and implemented a video strategy, then what are you doing? There’s an entire audience just waiting to watch what you have to say.
Communicating a product, idea or brand by video is also showing no signs of slowing down soon.

The same report by HighQ stated:
1. By 2017, online video will account for 74% of all web traffic
2. More video content will be uploaded to the web in a month than TV has created in 30 years
3. 65% of viewers watch more than ¾ of a video
4. 500 million people watch Facebook videos every day; with 85% of those watched without sound

While these stats are staggering, the real interest lies in video’s potential in the professional and executive market. The same report found that 75% of business executives watch work-related videos weekly and that 59% of senior executives agree that if given the choice between text and video, they’ll watch the video.

However, when you consider the potential, video’s prior success and continuing bright future is really no surprise. With 93% of marketers using video for online marketing, sales and communication, and an increase of 65% on eDM click-through rates when mentioning video in the subject, it’s clear that this medium is reaching the right people at the right time and delivering the right results.

With every company realising the effect of video in their digital communications, standing out from the crowd is more important than ever. Content needs to be of a high quality, original and creative to capture a viewer’s attention. The best case scenario is something personalised and on-trend that consumers can interact with.
So pop your thinking caps on! If a video strategy isn’t already on the to-do list, it’s time to get cracking.
